The Bridal Party

It appears I have to step up my game as I see Larry’s beautiful writing on this blog. Although my writing can’t compare to his, I will do my best to help you get to know my side of our wedding party and the beautiful special people that have agreed to be a part of it.

Aimee Capozzi

I was 10 years old, in the 6th grade when I met my sister, my best friend, and in many ways my life partner.

From the moment Aimee and I worked on a class project together, the topic of which escapes me now some 32 years later, we were inseparable. Swimming at the pool near her house, walking around the neighbourhood to pass the houses of the boys we liked, listening to music and sharing the wonderful childhood laughs that you never forget. From that point we journeyed together through our lives. In high school, we would get into her car and follow the boys basketball team around, make up lip sync productions at parties (we were sober I swear! Okay, maybe not), and share every moment of our growing up together.

We worked together too for many years in our 20s, at East Side Mario’s and Centre for Education and Training. Although our lives took separate paths (I moved around a lot- Vancouver, Mississauga, Toronto, Mississauga again, Burlington, and now the Hammer), we remained the truest of friends.

Aimee is my voice of reason, my confidant, my reality-check, my check-and-balance, and her love and kind heart shines through every interaction we have had together. We’ve shared our joys, we’ve shared our tears, and through it all Aimee has been my “person”. There was not a stitch of doubt that Aimee would be my Maid of Honour. She loves me, I love her, and we are family in the truest sense of the word. My sister and my best friend, I don’t know how I would have gotten through life without Aimee by my side and in my corner.

Lauren Jodoin-Aronson

My brother’s wife, my sister-in-law and in life, my friend. One thing I definitely do not take for granted is my special relationship with Lauren. She is smart, funny, and a wonderful Aunt and mother to my beautiful angelic nieces.

Lauren and I really got to know each other when she moved to Hamilton from Toronto when we would spend every Tuesday and Thursday night together doing burpees, sit ups, planks, and crunches at Freestyle Fitness on Ottawa Street. My memories of that time are so special to me. Our post-workout trips to WalMart, our talks on the ride there and back, those moments were so meaningful and important to me, and I will never forget them. Now we have our (lively) family dinners, girls movie nights, and summer barbeques.

On top of my relationship with Lauren, she loves and gets my brother, who is also my best friend, and she brought my amazing nieces, who share her beauty and sense of humour, into our lives. I am so lucky to have you Lauren, and I am so thrilled that you agreed to me in my bridal party.

Amber Pattison

She is an amazing sister to her big brother Larry, and she is an amazing friend and (soon to be sister) to me. I know I can always count on Amber to share life’s joys (and sorrows). Thank you Amber for being an important part of our day, for being such a wonderful human being, and for accepting both Hayleigh and I as your family right from the start.

You know when you meet someone and you just know that they are the real deal and you love them immediately? Amber is that person. Amber embodies kindness, joy, smiles, laughter, and love. She is one of the most special people in my life and I truly see how lucky I am to have her as my soon to be sister-in-law.

Amber is the type of person who shows up and is there for every one in her life – a quality she most certainly gets from her wonderful parents. She is an amazing Aunt to her nieces Emma and Abby (Fred and Bob), and without a moment’s hesitation she welcomed my Hayleigh as her 3rd niece, sweetly nicknaming her “Squirt”.She is an amazing sister to her big brother Larry, and she is an amazing friend and (soon to be sister) to me. I know I can always count on Amber to share life’s joys (and sorrows).

Thank you Amber for being an important part of our day, for being such a wonderful human being, and for accepting both Hayleigh and I as your family right from the start.

Catherine Johnston

I met Catherine several years ago through Erich’s Cupboard, the charity she and her partner Chris Parkinson created in memory of her son. When I called her and offered to help with their yearly Halloween Spooktacular Fundraiser, she agreed and we met to start planning. From that moment, Catherine has been by our side helping with our own event, Pumpkin Prowl, and we became fast friends, and now coworkers.

When I think of Catherine, there are several words that come to mind, namely kindness, selflessness, grace, and beauty. But mostly, Catherine is all heart. She wears her heart on her sleeve and cares so much for the people around her that she rarely, if ever, has time to think about herself. She makes me laugh, especially when bringing candy to Pumpkin Prowl participating houses driving backwards down the street, or indulging me in an #inmyfeelingschallenge. I am so lucky to have met such a wonderful friend and I am so proud to have Catherine as part of our wedding.

Hayleigh Pepper Aronson Mills

Not sure how I can get through writing about my Hayleigh without tears shorting out my keyboard. I didn’t know what my purpose was in life until I had Hayleigh. She gave my life meaning from the moment I saw her little face and body blanketed like a burrito, staring up at me. Of course I am biased about her, but if you meet her and get to know her, you will see one of the smartest, funniest, grown-upiest kids you will ever meet.

Hayleigh is my daughter, but she is also my best friend. She is wise beyond her years and is often found giving me very grown-up advice. She loves sharks, animals of all kinds, and her family most of all. I am beyond proud of this amazing little girl and words cannot describe the love I have for her. I can’t wait to share this day with you my little love! I am so thankful and so incredibly lucky that I get to be your mom.

Emma Pattison

Once again, I find myself feeling immense gratitude for having the opportunity to have more daughters in my life. This time it’s in the form of stepdaughters.

Emma is a very talented, strong-willed, and kind not-so-little-anymore girl. Emma too has qualities that make you see that she is wise beyond her years. At 12, Emma is the caregiver to many. To kids in her class, kids on her baseball team, and often to Hayleigh and Abby. When Emma is called on to be there for a child with a disability or be a friend to someone who is feeling lonely, she does so fully and completely and with her whole heart. Emma cares so much about others, and she feels things so deeply that you want to throw your arms around her and protect her from the world. You can tell she gets this from her daddy, her aunt, and her grandmother who are very much the same.

Emma is a sweet, smart, creative and loving almost-teenager who I am very lucky to call my soon to be step-daughter.

Abigail Pattison

Abby makes me laugh, Abby makes everyone laugh. She is one funny kid, but more than that she is an absolute sweetheart who you can’t help but fall in love with.

Abby is a pleasure to have around and is always the first one to offer to help. She will surprise you with her ability to go from being a giggly little girl one minute to a responsible big girl the next. She is smart, funny, creative, and loving. Again I am filled with gratitude for being the lucky lady who gets to be her soon to be step-mom.

Thank you Abs for welcoming me into your family and for being a bridesmaid on this very special day for our family!

The Flower Girls

Audrey and Isabel Aronson

Umm, have you seen these two?! What more do I need to say? They are the cutest, funniest, most amazing nieces anyone could have.

Audrey is a whirlwind of energy and she makes us all howl with the things she says and does. Whether she’s performing a Lady Gaga song, a song of her own, or making up games like Arrows in the Chest (where she shoots her dad with pretend arrows and he needs to pretend to die), she is a force!

Isabel, is her younger sister and although she is just starting to say words, you can tell she knows what’s going on. Hayleigh describes her as sassy “even though she isn’t saying anything, you can tell that she is so sassy with just the way she looks at you”.

I can’t even wait to see these two flower girl munchkins as they walk down the aisle!

Sophia Menyhert

So, you may think it’s kind of weird to have a 20 year old flower girl, but hey, who said we had to play by the wedding rules anyway!?

Sophia wanted to be my flower girl since she was 4 years old. How can I not try to fulfill her bucket list wish? Sophia is an absolutely amazing person. She is my cousin on my dad’s side and if you want to talk about a force, she is it!

Sophia is, and always has been, one of the most remarkable people I have ever known. Whether she was raising funds for MS by beautifully playing the violin outside for donations, riding her bike for days on end, or dancing ballet like she belonged on the world’s most prestigious stages, Sophia has done things that most people could never dream of doing. She is so smart, so funny, so talented, and I am so proud to have her in our family and with us on our special day.

I think I need to take a second to just let it sink in what wonderful women I have in my life.

So beautiful Tara. This is what life is about, having family and friends that are always there for you as I know you are for them. You brought tears to my eyes when you spoke about your long friendship with Aimee as it is so parallel to the friendship that your Mom and I share. Love you Tara and we are so excited that you and Larry have honoured us to share in your special day.

    Much love, Helen
